FORT WORTH -- Betty Ruth Girard Clayton, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, went home to be with her Savior surrounded by family Sunday evening, December 06, 2020. Mrs. Clayton was 90. Born in Fort Worth Betty, the youngest of five children, Betty was the daughter of Harry and Clara Girard. A boy named Johnny moved to Texas from Mississippi and sat behind Betty in English class at McLean Junior High School. As soon as he turned 18 and she received permission from her parents, the two were married and were inseparable for the next 72 years. Betty graduated from TCU with a BS in Education in 1963 and a Master’s degree in Education in 1966. She taught typing and shorthand and later English at Arlington Heights High School for 20 years. She and Johnny loved to travel and filled their home with beautiful remembrances of their adventures. Betty was devoted to her family and traveled abroad as well as across the US in their motorhome with her son and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Vivian, Marjorie, Henry and Raymond. In addition to her loving husband, John, Betty is survived by her son, Gary and his wife, Susan; and her grandchildren, Travis and his wife, Alexandra, and Sarah; and several nieces and nephews and their families. A service in the cemetery will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. in Laurel Land Memorial Park.
