FORT WORTH -- Benjamin Milton Jones, 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at the Stayton, his home in Fort Worth on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. Ben was born Dec. 18, 1932, in Olustee, Okla., to Alva and Eula Jones. He was one of seven children. The family resided in Oklahoma, Texas and Colorado. Ben joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and went on to serve proudly in the Korean War. He traveled extensively as national sales manager of International Homes and raised his family in Winnsboro. In 1985, Ben married Sharon Davis of Fort Worth. Ben and Sharon lived in Weatherford and Ben joined Sharon in her family's business, Westgate Fabrics, until it sold in 1993. Together they moved to Steamboat Springs, Colo., where they enjoyed the mountains, many friends and lots of adventures. Here, Ben was on the board of the Tread of the Pioneers Museum. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Elks Lodge. Ben's favorite group was the "DD" Coffee Club in Steamboat - where the world's problems were analyzed and solved. Sharon and Ben traveled by motor coach across the country for five years - going from Maine to Alaska picking up friends along the way. Ben never met a card game he couldn't win or a joke he couldn't repeat. He leaves all his loved ones with amazing memories of his quick wit and infectious smile. Ben always had a remarkable bond with his chocolate lab companions, Maggie and Lilly. Endless hours of fetch and fishing they spent together. Ben's family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Janice Knebl, "Ben's Girls" on the 3rd floor of the Stayton, Sam Evans and Amara Russell with Custom Caregivers, Pam, Pat and Barbara with Community Hospice of Texas. Ben was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter and son-in-law, Judy Lynn Jones Bolt and Barney Bolt of Houston; his grandson, Casey Jones of Winnsboro; and his sisters, Wilma Alexander, Ada McCormick and Phoebe Voorhis.
