FORT WORTH -- Barbara Friedman died peacefully Thursday morning, Dec. 11, 2014. Service: We celebrate the life of a most remarkable and loving sister, aunt and friend at 11 a.m. Friday in the Beth-El Section of Greenwood Memorial Park. Barbara was born over 100 years ago and raised by her stepmother, Mamie, and father, Harry B. Friedman, in Fort Worth. She was schooled in Fort Worth and became the first woman licensed as an architect in the state of Texas, graduating from the University of Texas at Austin. Barbara worked in firms in Texas and Manhattan, and designed the first motel in Albuquerque, N.M., where she lived for many years. In her youth she was a talented horsewoman making many appearances in the Fort Worth Stock Show. A gifted artist who painted regularly up until recent years, Barbara was also a prodigious knitter, gifting friends and family with hand-made blankets over the years. She lived and traveled extensively throughout Mexico, visiting many of the more obscure villages in the most remote areas of the country. After moving back to Fort Worth, Barbara volunteered for many years at the Food Bank and All Saints Hospital. The family would like to thank her good friends, Elizabeth, Ann and Chester Martin, Karon Graves, Patricia, Jeannie Gotcher, Barry, Daylen Cross, (her email tutor), Glenda Gloss and Tufan Oncel, for providing loving care for her. They were her extended family and we are grateful to them for all their help and friendship over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bayard H. Friedman.
