ARTHUR STROECK

FORT WORTH -- Arthur Charles Stroeck passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, during his 94th year.        Service: Arthur will be laid to rest Thursday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: Family and friends will gather 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Great Room at Robertson Mueller Harper.        Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County or to a charity of choice, in his memory, is suggested.        Born Dec. 8, 1918, in San Antonio, Arthur was the son of Otto and Margarite Schero Stroeck. After graduating from Harlandale High School, he was the first and only member of his family to receive a college degree -- a degree in architecture from Texas A&M in 1942.        Arthur served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the war, he was discharged at the rank of captain and worked for Acme Brick in Fort Worth, Houston and Oklahoma City from 1947 to 1962. That year he began Stroeck Brick & Tile, which he operated until 1988. In 1989, he started Dorcane Enterprises, a picante sauce company.        A proud member of the "Greatest Generation," Arthur lived by the Golden Rule. He served as president of the Fort Worth A&M Club in 1973 and on the board of directors of Southwest Bank from 1976 to 2007. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Moslah Shrine and the Fort Worth Scottish Rite Bodies and was a 60-year member of the Grand Lodge of Texas. His memberships also included the Optimist Club and Colonial Country Club.        He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna Louise Wilson Stroeck, who died in 1976; daughter, Dorcas, who died in 2005; Toni Gernsbacher, who died earlier this year; and longtime friend and companion, Mae Brown, who died in 2002.        Survivors: In addition to his daughter and her husband, Diane and Phil Hughes, Arthur is survived by his grandchildren, Jamie and Jimmy Jaubert and Julie and Cory Graham; great-grandchildren, Mason, Ellie and Evan Jaubert and Stella Graham; and extended family, Harold Gernsbacher and his children, Jordan and Leigh; D'Ann and David Woodle and their children, Shannon Scala and her husband, Johnnathan, and Matthew Shipley; and Norma Bonda.
