Fort Worth & Graford

Fort Worth, Texas – A. V. “Scottie” Corpening III passed away peacefully at his Fort Worth home surrounded by his family after a long, valiant, and courageous battle with diabetes.  He was 68 years old.  His daily struggles are over, and he is at peace.

Known by family and friends as Scottie, he was born in Dallas, Texas, the son of Ann and A.V. Corpening Jr.  He graduated from R. L. Paschal High School and briefly attended The University of Texas in Austin before returning to Fort Worth to run the family oil and gas business after his dad was killed in an airplane accident in 1974.

Scottie was a member of Colonial Country Club for years and proudly served as Vice-Chair of Player Relations for the club’s PGA golf tournament held each year.  He was selected by peers to become a Pride of the Plaid member, which he deeply cherished.  He was equally proud to serve as Chairman of the Fort Worth Stock Show Syndicate 1994-1995. The goal of the Syndicate is to help fund college education and inspire the youth of Texas to pursue a career in agriculture.  He then was honored to be an Honorary Vice President of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, which also made him very proud.

Scottie also served as Secretary for many years of the Oak Hill Cemetery Association in Montague County where his father and grandparents are buried.

Requesting cremation, his ashes will be scattered at Possum Kingdom Lake, where he called home.

In addition to his wife, Shawn, Scottie is survived by his mother, Ann Corpening; daughter, Caroline and her husband, Frank Lamsens; his son, A.V. Corpening and his wife, Megan; Lucy, the best fur baby; grandchildren, Charlotte and Teddy Lamsens, Isabel and Gus Corpening; brother, Joey; sister, Melissa; nephew, Franklin Corpening and his family; several cousins, and volumes of dear friends.

The family suggests memorials in Scotties’ memory be made to the

James M. “Jim Bob” Norman Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 17005, Fort Worth, TX 76102 or to the PK East VFD, P.O. Box 343, Graford, TX 76449.
